§ 2-31. Election to participate in local government employees retirement system.

  • All present and future general employees shall be covered by benefit program L-3 of the Missouri local government employees' retirement system.

    All present and future police department employees declared to be eligible, who have 1,500 or more hours of annual employment, shall be covered under benefit program L-3 (1.25%).

    (1)

    Final average salary for each employee shall be determined on the basis of the highest consecutive 36 months from the employee's final 120 months of gross salary.

    (2)

    No contributions to the Missouri Local Government Employees Retirement System shall be required from eligible employees.

    (3)

    The period of employment from June 1, 1969 to the effective date of coverage is to be considered for vesting purposes only for all eligible police department employees. Service accrued after the effective date of coverage will be considered for vesting and the calculation of benefits for any eligible employee.

    (4)

    Employee retirement benefits shall be based on the "minimum service retirement age", in accordance with the provisions of RSMo 70.600(16).

    (5)

    The City of Ballwin is directed to remit the employer contributions required by RSMo 70.730.

    (6)

    Remittances and other required reports and records shall be forwarded to the retirement system in accordance with administrative guidelines established by officials of the retirement system.

    (7)

    Such election shall be effective on the first day of July, 2012.
